It is the ultimate paradox of every nonprofit and a common source of tension for all involved.

A group of committed people come together for a worthy cause, and then are expected to find consensus on the vision, serve as the ultimate fiduciary agent, and appropriately delegate implementation to staff.

It’s a tall order.

The fact is we know that board members join organizations for the same reason staff members do.

They love the mission.

While that’s critically important – and commendable – it alone does not make for a strong, functional board-staff partnership.

In fact, we’ve worked with enough organizations to know that an effective board-staff team is actually the exception, not the rule.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t achieve it. We’ll work with you to make it happen.
